The Becky Love Foundation is blessed with an exuberance of volunteers. Located at Turner Farm in Great Falls, Virginia, we are building a retreat center to help those who are struggling.
2 Boy Scouts completed their Eagle Scout projects at Turner Farm this year. Tommy came with his troop from St. Francis Episcopal Church, designed, built and stained 6 benches for the milk house. AJ came with his troop from St. Mark Catholic Church, evaluated and remediated the water drainage issues along and under the stone dust trail to the pond, and at the top of the path to redirect water into the pasture.
Marines from Quantico came to flip pancakes on the grill for our annual Pancake Breakfast, first Saturday of December. They painted fence, clipped growth around the pond, and replenished stone dust on the trail.
40 teens from 3 churches with adult team leaders and contractors spent a week in June painting and sealing the milk house roof, clearing the trail and loading 40 more tons of gravel around the pond, painted and installing 5 birdhouses for blue bird monitoring, spreading compost, seed and straw over the newly installed septic drainage field and tanks. Another 16 teens from Christ the King came in July to build a raised bed in front of the new septic tanks, paint 1000 feet of horse fence, and install french drains along the stone dust trail.
We are so grateful to all of these volunteers - they have brought out the natural beauty of the farm, and created beautiful spaces for reflection and peace.
The retreat house construction is underway, shoring up the structure, and framing. We hope to finish construction this fall - your support is essential to making it happen. Thank you to all of our volunteers, and welcome to all who want to be a part of creating a healing space here in Northern Virginia.
