El Faro de los Animales... Saving the strays of Puerto Rico

We are El Faro de los Animales, a very special and resilient animal sanctuary for homeless cats and dogs. We pride ourselves in giving every animal in our care a chance at a new real life. Even though its been 5 years since Hurricane Maria decimated us, we never stopped saving lives and worked hard to rebuild, and this year Hurricane Fiona put a big dent on our work... El Faro de los Animales, Saving the street dogs of Puerto Rico. By some estimates the number of stray dogs on the island have doubled to 500,000 since hurricane Maria. After the devastation from hurricane Fiona, the situation is expected to get much worse. We are El Faro de los Animales a no kill sanctuary based in the eastern town of Humacao. We are a non-profit organization dedicated to the well-being of homeless and abandoned dogs and cats. Our mission is to rescue, rehabilitate and re-home dogs and cats off the streets and beaches of Puerto Rico. We also educate our community about responsible and compassionate care of animals. Currently our sanctuary houses between 100 and 150 animals, mostly dogs. Although the most recent hurricane damaged our sanctuary, our animals were evacuated and are safe.
